Westmont Family Counseling Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to the emotional and psychological care of individuals, couples and families. It is located on the campus of the Westmont Presbyterian Church and began as a mission outreach program of the church in 1988 by Dr. David Walker. The counseling center has evolved into a warm and caring facility where mental health counseling is provided by a staff of eight master’s and doctoral level therapists with a wide variety of skills and experience. Counseling services are available to anyone with an investment in personal and family wellness regardless of ethnic or religious considerations or inability to pay.

After twenty years, the program has grown to provide over 3,000 counseling hours per year to people throughout the region. The board of directors has evolved to represent many faiths. Services are provided to individuals, couples, and families whose lives are disrupted by developmental, transitional, or relational issues, by matters related to the stress of daily living, and by specific problems concerning addiction, depression, abuse, grief, and anxiety, as examples.

The Mission Statement: To provide counseling services and resources based on Christian values of caring and compassion to those seeking emotional and relational wholeness.

Referrals are from various sources such as self, family, doctors, schools, pastors, and other agencies.

Funding is provided by the mission projects of several churches such as Westmont Presbyterian Church, individuals and companies, and an Annual Major Fundraising Dinner which is held each year in October at Sunnehanna Country Club. The Scrip Program also gives individuals an opportunity to support the program. For those with the ability to pay, a basic fee with a sliding scale is charged. The staff of WFCM is also credentialed by most insurance companies.

Because treatment is provided in a warm and caring homelike environment, this helps those who receive services eliminate or at least reduce the stigma often attached to seeking mental health services so the individual can make that important call to receive the help he/she may need.

How Can You Help—The next Fundraising Dinner will be held at Sunnehanna Country Club on October 7, 2009. New attendees are most welcome, as well as those who have supported WFCM in the past. Donations are also very welcome throughout the year, especially during these serious economic times. It is through the financial help of the community and their support and prayers that the work of the counselors is able to be carried out.
