SESSION NOTES………..

Session’s meeting for June was the final one before resuming in August with new members on board. Carole Schrum and Elizabeth Mayer will have served their terms of office and their seats will be filled when the election takes place on June 29. Routine reports included attendance which seems to be constant in spite of vacations. Three weddings, a baptism, were reported and approval was given for two more weddings toward fall.

We are in a little bit of a limbo regarding the Colorectal Cancer Prevention program which is offered by the Office of community Health and Conemaugh Health System. Many have expressed interest and hopefully we can be scheduled soon.

Dave Wylie gave a brief review of the progress of the Partnership for Missional church endeavor. Participation in the final year of the program was approved. The focus at present is creating church activities where interaction with the community is involved, allowing us not to just serve but develop a dialogue and relationship with individuals on a more personal level. A farmers’ market is in the works but some borough hurdles must first be eliminated which may defer this activity until later. PET DAY will be June 29 and since people have been coming from all over, this presents an opportunity to interact – it attracts kids and pets which is a “natural” for conversation. This activity is sponsored by the Adult S. S. class (now meeting in the chapel) and if you have never been to PET DAY, do so now!

Dr. Stevens noted that Mary Ellen Lawson, the former Stated Clerk of Redstone will be covering the position vacated via the retirement of Dr. Douglas Holben. Dr. Stevens will be taking study leave/vacation time during July. Arrangements are complete to fill the pulpit during these couple weeks; it is hoped July 13 we will have visitors from Sudan missions; this is not yet confirmed.

The Tribune Democrat has a Book of churches in the oven and we will be receiving a visit from those collecting material.

All seems to continue favorable as regards to finances and budget. The Capital Campaign was completed officially in May but pledge money is still trickling in. All monies designated to missions during the campaign are being disbursed this week.

C. E. is looking to Bible School during the first week of August. Here, again, is a great opportunity for community participation. Ricky’s Corner will have open house Sunday, September 21 at its new location. What a great resource for our children!

These are the highlights for this time. Many opportunities to share THE WORD are presented during the next months. Remember to SHARE FAITH, OFFER PRAYER, GATHER HOPE.

Your Clerk of Session,
Phyllis Melker
